Joy A. Keith

Age 61 entered this world as Joy Arlene Winsor at St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. She was the 4th of 12 children born to Cedric and Caroline Winsor.  She grew up in Newfoundland where her family enjoyed a lifestyle of reaping the bounties of nature, camping, picking berries and fishing for salmon and trout.  She developed an early passion for learning about far away places and cultures, influenced by the cosmopolitan environment of a seaport city.  Even more, she cultivated a love for the English language, resulting in a habit of learning a new word every day until the end of her life, the results of which could be seen in the unusual care with which she composed even her e-mails.

At the age of 17, Joy married Douglas Keith, who was, at that time, a soldier in the United States Army.  She moved with him to Fort Lewis, Washington and spent most of her life from that time in the United States.  They were blessed with 3 children: Cedric, Gillian and Douglas and with 1 grandson, Steven.

In 1980, Joy and Doug moved to Nashville, where Doug studied for the Christian Ministry and thereafter, she faithfully supported his work in the pastoral ministry until transitioning out of active ministry in 2010.

Joy was a lover of the delights of home and family.  She found rich reward in caring for her husband, her children and her grandchild.  She was fulfilled in housekeeping and decoratng, in gardening, and in cooking.  It's fair to say that she spoiled her family and delighted to do so.  She loved beauty.  She loved life. She loved God.

Joy was ever deeply conscious of the gravity of responsibility toward God.  She knew that in the end it would be He to whom she must give an account and so she conscientiously directed every act toward pleasing God and had no greater ambition  than to see that all her children might meet her in Heaven someday.

In the early morning on April 25, 2017, Joy departed from this world, having "fallen asleep with Jesus".  Though she is deeply missed, our sorrow is mixed with joy, not just because her suffering is ended, but because we have the confidence that we can be together again for all eternity.  Visitation Friday 11:30 am to 1:30pm.  Funeral services at the funeral home at 1:30 pm.

Richard (“Dick”) H. Westrick

Dick Westrick, a prolific actor in North Hills community theatre, popular cantor at St. Alexis Catholic Church in Wexford, former Gulf Oil Corporation payroll manager, and long-time resident of Allison Park, died on Monday, January 9, 2017, from sudden-onset renal failure, cutting short Alzheimer’s long goodbye before it could claim every cherished memory of his loved ones. He was 82. Known for his keen wit and sonorous tenor, Westrick appeared in dozens of local productions, first with the St. Alexis Playcrafters in the 1970s and increasingly, in later years, as a member of the Comtra Theatre Players in Cranberry Township. He gave his farewell performance in 2010 in his favorite recurring role at Comtra: Kris Kringle in “Miracle on 34th Street,” a musical by Meredith Willson based on the 1947 film. Born in  1934, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Carl H. and Esther I. (Matlack) Dodge, he adopted the surname of his stepfather, Leo J. Westrick, before graduating from Maumee High School in 1952, and in 1955 married Jeanne M. Byrne of Toledo on the U.S. Army base at Fort Myer, Virginia, while serving with the 3rd Infantry Regiment, “The Old Guard,” the nation’s oldest active-duty regiment. His career as a manager for Gulf Oil spanned four decades, taking Westrick  and his family from Toledo to Houston, Texas, then to Park Ridge, Illinois, and ultimately to Pittsburgh in 1972. He remained active for many years following his 1986 retirement from Gulf by bringing his payroll expertise to Simakas Company of Mars, Pennsylvania, on a part-time basis.  For decades, Westrick and his wife Jeanne were fixtures in the choir at St. Alexis, where he led the congregation in hymns and liturgical responses as cantor for hundreds of masses and, as a result, was asked to sing at scores of matrimonial and memorial services. Helping new couples celebrate their marriages as part of the church family they adored brought “Dick and Jeanne,” a couple celebrated by their friends for the profound love they shared for each other, full circle. Westrick was preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Jeanne; their firstborn, infant son John F. Westrick; siblings William H. Matlack, Mary Sue Simonds, Eugene T. Westrick and Cathy Westrick, all of Toledo, Ohio; and beloved family Papillon dog Cara. He is survived by his sons, Richard B.
